Do you feel unfulfilled in life or wondering how you can accomplish your life purpose?. If this is you, then here are 5 secrets to discovering your life purpose.
Have you thought of why and what you are placed on earth to do?. If you are not sure how to start discovering your life purpose, this post is for you. Though you may not have discovered your life purpose at this point, I would like to reassure you that it’s not too late.
For me, it doesn’t matter. There is always a starting point in every life decision we make. Make today the beginning of your journey and start to discover your hidden gem.
To get tips on uncovering your greatness, continue to read. I will share my personal experience, struggles and how I discovered my passion and life purpose. I believe we are placed on this planet for a purpose.
You may disagree with me, but I believe we are placed here to impact the world around us with our special gifts.
When I say gifts, yes we all have special abilities inert.
Some of us have been made to feel or believe we have nothing to contribute to the world. Perhaps, you may have been told you lack certain qualities or educational background or even feel you are born into the wrong family or wrong place as it may seem.
I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion about you, but the only opinion that matters is the one you have about yourself. I understand that life situations have made you limit yourself and take the safest options.
No one wants their critic to humiliate them, so the best course of action is to remain in the status quo. Bear in mind, your situation will not change until you do something different.
So, permit me to ask you a question?. Are you willing to live and die with your dreams and purpose unfulfilled?. Are you willing to allow your critic to get the better of you?.
Have you sat down to analyse the negative thoughts that pull you back from living a purposeful life? Do you think the negative thoughts are valid, or is it your perception about how you think people see you?.
I’ll discuss how you can tackle your fears and how to stay motivated when you hit roadblocks. Be reassured it’s not too late to work on the way you see yourself. Keep reading to discover ideas and support available to you.
For many years, I struggled with finding my purpose and realising the greatness in me. I had the hunger to care for people and empower people with life issues, especially people struggling or recovering from mental health challenges.
My life purpose is to affect humanity positively and live a positive mark at the end of my life on earth. To stand up against injustice and empower the vulnerable and advocate for them in ways by giving hope to the hopeless.
Also, to help people realise that they can achieve anything, they set their mind on regardless of their health status, creed, race and age. But I didn’t know how or where to begin. Research and exploring career options/ pathways helped me decide, which led me to pursue a caring profession that I believed would help me achieve my life purpose.
I was so excited when I started my nursing career after finishing my 3 years BSC Hons nursing degree course and worked in the field for 16 years.
To my amazement, I realised that the purpose for which I went into a caring profession hadn’t been actualised. I thought I have spent the last 16 years caring and advocating for the vulnerable people in society but still had this restlessness within me.
My restlessness led me to realise that I still had the burning hunger to reaching out to a wider audience as my nursing career wasn’t doing that for me. I knew and believed I have a lot to offer to the wider community, but how do I go about it?.
Perhaps, you are at a stage in your life where you are about to make the most important decision of your life. For example, choosing a school course, A’level, university or ending a relationship or starting a business but not sure of what to do.
I would encourage you not to panic.
Hang in there, don’t give up!. It’s alright to feel overwhelmed and confused but don’t dwell there. I believe the worst thing anyone can do in life is to do the same thing and expect a different result or do nothing at all.
I mentioned earlier that I spent 16 years doing what I thought would help me achieve my life purpose but realised I was being prepared for something greater.
My nursing career was a training place and a ground to fine turn my life purpose. I know your next question from you would be, how did you go about it?. Well, this was the greatest challenge in my journey, not knowing where to start.
Though, I felt confused about the process. I began to look for answers. This led me to research and even tried to talk to people who knew me but didn’t get anywhere.
I went through stages of frustration and confusion. I thought to myself, maybe this purposeful life is mythical. It never occurred to me that I had a hidden gem in me, which requires activation.
Yes, I say activation because it’s lying dormant within me. I share this with you to encourage you to search within you. It might sound quite patronising to you, but you have a hidden gem in you. You are born with a purpose, and you need to discover it, understand the purpose and activate it.
If you are reading this, you may say, but it’s too late for me or I don’t have the skill set to do this. I would strongly advise you to ditch those mindsets, this was what held me back for many years. I kept giving excuses, and my fears got the better of me.
My fears were mainly people’s perception of me and what they might say, but I was relentless about living a purposeful life. So, I started sharing my thoughts on my Instagram page(jayceepassionblog) and saw that people found it helpful.
I thought maybe I could blog on passionate areas I have always wanted to share with my community, especially raising mental health awareness and lifestyle. Writing on Instagram still didn’t satisfy me. I went on to research blogging, and it’s a requirement.
I was so amazed that I didn’t need to be a perfect writer to communicate my experience and ideas with people.
It left me thrilled. Let’s say it was that moment I knew I could realise my life purpose. I know you are eager to know the 5 secrets to discover your life purpose.
Living a life of purpose defers from one individual to another. Before diving into the 5 secrets to discovering your life purpose, let me explain what life purpose means.
What does Life purpose mean?
My understanding of life purpose is the reason you do what you do. What makes you commit to carrying out an action or actions in the future. In a nutshell, life purpose shapes our sense of direction, goals and decisions we make at any given time. Life Purpose is different for everyone.
For some people, Life purpose means engaging in a vocation, and they get satisfaction from it, and for some, it may be taking care of their family. Others may seek life purpose through their belief system.
Life Purpose evolves as you grow and will change with experience. Take time to reflect over the years, you may notice what matters a few years back may not be a priority anymore.
As you take time to reflect on your life purpose, here are some questions that may come to mind.
- What am I here to do?
- Am I living a fulfilled life?
- When do I know I am fulfilled?
I believe we don’t do things for the sake of doing it or it’s because of a trend. To live a purposeful life, you have to be intentional and gazing at the end result.
Discovering you can attain a fulfilling life would prompt you to question your existence, which will drive you to achieve it.
Are you at the crossroads of making a decision? Here are 5 secrets that would usher you into discovering your life purpose.
5 Secrets To Discovering Your Life Purpose.
1. Consider writing your Life Purpose down if you know what it is.
Not everyone knows what they are called to do. Some will say, I have always known and dreamt of becoming this or that. For some, it’s not quite clear. Some discover their purpose by chance or through life experiences.
So, it’s alright not know, but the important part is to understand that there is something special about you and that you have the power to make a difference in the world out there.
If you are confused and still on the journey, I would advise you to start where you are by trying out new experience and skills. Obviously, for one to discover a new idea or talent or skill, you ought to do something new or different. So go for it!
If it turns out you didn’t like the experience, at least you`ve learnt something about your yourself and no experience is wasted. There are questions I asked myself when I was on the journey to discovering my purpose.
These questions helped you to tease out what is important to you.
- What is your core belief and values?
- Write down different values and beliefs that resonate with you, and you would like to positively impact your life and those around you.
- What are those things that make you come alive when you talk about it with your friends and family?. I have always referred to journaling as my power tool. It helps me to see where I am and how I have progressed. So, write what matters to you.
- What would I love to do with my life if I am giving the freedom to do so?
We often talk about winning the lottery even though we don’t play regularly but reminisce what we would do with our winnings if we won.
So, if you have the means or financial freedom, what would you do with it? Besides having all the luxury things in life, what would you do with your time and excess funds?.
2. Now, you have identified your area of interest.
Research, read articles, even blogs to understand the area of your interest. My knowledge of blogging was next to nothing until I started to do my research. I was so shocked by how much information out there on the internet.
Set aside every week to read about those core values and beliefs that resonate with you and learn from others’ experiences. Learn from their mistakes and see what you can draw from their experience.
3. Identify your fears and Limitations.
We all have our individual fears. Yes, I experienced a great deal of fear, but I didn’t let it stop me. I thought to myself, what’s the worst that can happen?. Well, I’m still here, ain’t I.
I feared people’s perception of my writing and thought I wasn’t good enough. But I was lucky to be surrounded by positive people who edge me on and told me I could do it.
Take note of your negative thoughts, if possible, write it down. Then write down some positive affirmation to challenge these negative thoughts. To change a habit requires a new way of thinking.
So you will need to practice and practice.
Finally, remember your problem is half solved when you acknowledge your limitations and focus on your desired purpose. Give it a shot again even if you failed the first time.
We’ve heard enormous success stories about how these successful people persevered despite setbacks. You’ll encounter people who will discourage you and tell you you are not good enough.
You will also encounter a handful who will support you. Just hold on to the support you have and with the belief and determination in your heart.
4. Work and Challenge your fears and limitations.
After the realisation of my purpose, I had other fears that I had to deal with. I listed my fears and began to address it one by one. My number one challenge was the need for a platform to share my ideas and impact others’ knowledge.
This means I needed a website. When I found out the cost of building and maintaining a website was high. I went into a panic mode and thought it is not going to happen.
I continued researching…..
When I saw other bloggers website, I thought this is impossible. Some said a developer built it for them, but I didn’t have the funds to do this. I decided it was time for me to do something about it and read about building a website and made youtube my goto site.
I learnt virtually everything on youtube and build this site myself in the space of one month after my day job and taking care of my family. So, you see, you can do anything you set your mind to do.
I don’t have specialist skills except for A’level in I.T, but all you need is the determination and zeal to do it. Yes, there were times I wanted to abandon it, but when I remember my vision for building my site, I carried on.
So, for some of you who want to start a new skill, business or blog. Just go for it. For those who want to know the youtube tutorial I use. Check out this website https://websitelearners.com/make-a-website/ and follow their youtube channel.
5. Dream it and achieve your life purpose.
If you have a dream that is not challenging or doesn’t scare you, then you need to think again. Your dream should inspire you before it can touch others. You need to believe in yourselves before you can convince someone to agree with you.
So dream big…
See those dreams vividly and follow through with a plan you have in place. Keep your eyes on the end goal and don’t allow the setbacks to throw you off your course.
Focus on things you have control over and ignore the negative vibes. Begin to improve yourself by taking classes, reading books and other things that can increase your potential of actualising your life purpose.
Finally, if you fail, it is not the end. Dust off yourself and try again. Over time, you will reach and achieve your life purpose. It will happen, but you have to work on it gradually.
