8 STEPS GUIDE TO START A BLOG.
I get asked a lot about how much it will take to start a blog. Well, let says you don’t NEED so much. All I had was a computer, an internet connection and a host. No, much more!. I still use free plugins to keep my cost to a minimal.
If you have money, you can buy expensive tools like logos, plugins or have someone design your website. I designed my website myself and figured everything out by watching tons of youtube videos, especially on technical things, while building my website. It was quite a challenge at first, but I’m proud when people comment on how beautiful it is.
BASIC TOOLS YOU NEED TO START YOUR NEW BLOG
Determination and Passion.
Reliable Host for less than £6 per month.
I hope I can convince you to make a start today. If you are ready, let’s dive into how I started my blog.
1.Narrow Down Your Niche.
To do this, you need to ask yourself what you already love doing or something you are passionate about.
When deciding on a niche, the thing to bear in mind is to ensure that whatever you plan on blogging about will be making a profit.
While you are narrowing down your niche, I will advise you to give yourself room to make changes if you have a change of mind or want to add to your niches. For example, if you have chosen to blog about food recipe only but along the way, you discover an interest in others niches.
It may be a little challenging to suddenly switch what your blog is about. However, if your readers know your niche and the awareness you have other interest aside from food. They won’t be surprised when you blog about other things. This also makes your reader stay longer on your website.
if you are unsure about the area to blog about. Here are few ideas;
- You can blog about your life experience. ( mental health stories, life lessons).
- Hobbies( sharing recipes, beauty hacks).
- Area of your passion(sports, travel).
- You can start a personal blog ( parenting or family life).
Remember, your readers are coming to your blog site to find solutions to their problems or Tips to help them.
2.Pick A Domain A Name
Now you have decided on niche. The next thing is to pick a domain name. Just keep it simple and select a name people can easily remember. Sometimes, I cringed on the domain name I ended up with, but I wish I have time to worry about that.
Now you have decided on a name. The next step is to register your domain address with the name you already decided. Domain address names that people use to get you on the website, for example- my domain address is jayceepassionblog.com.
I use godaddy.com. Go to GoDaddy website and type in your chosen name in the box to see if the name is available if not it will give you other name suggestion. Then if you are happy with it.
I Purchased the.COM Domain and website security together. You don’t need to use GoDaddy for your domain name like me. It was a mistake and was too late for me to change it when I could purchase a domain name and host it with Siteground. I decided to stick with it.
I will go ahead talk about choosing a host.
3.Select A Host And Choose A Plan.

You can use another free self-hosting platform like WordPress.com, but I heard some brands won’t take you seriously. If blogging is something to you aren’t looking to monetise you go for it.

With your login details(username and password). Login to your new blog.
5. Install Your Blog Theme
This was the fun part for me. Like i mentioned earlier, you can use paid theme or free one. I use a free one provided by wordpress and i made it work.
Themes like Twenty Seventeen, Astra ,ultra ,divi are customised well and appears very professionally done.Though, you may find free theme have few limitation in terms of customising it.
To choose a theme, your new WordPress admin area. Click on appearance then go ahead and click the install button and add a new theme. Once you have decided on the Theme, you like. Click to install and then click activate button to activate the theme on your new blog.
Don’t worry if you don’t like the theme, you can change it and following the same process, but you need to deactivate the theme to install a new one.
